Safety: Every school’s number one thing that needs to be implemented every single day is safety of students and staff. By doing this it ensures a safe and proper environment for all students to learn properly.
There are many ways that students can get hurt while in school, however one of the biggest ways that cause injuries are fires. No matter where the fire is, it is always dangerous and it is best to keep up to date on how to put out a fire in the case one starts.
The Wentzville Fire Department visited Liberty on Tuesday, Sept. 16, for their fire safety course with new teacher, Bobbi Ferrell’s Culinary I students. The students learned how to use fire extinguishers, where the safety equipment is, how the sprinklers work, and many more things in the kitchen that they can use in case of an emergency.
“It is especially good for our Culinary Arts I class, we want to know all about safety in the kitchen, especially with our hot stoves and sharp things,” Ferrell said. “So they know what our kitchen has, which is multiple fire extinguishers, we have a fire blanket, sprinklers that pop out of the ceiling which I didn’t even know we had.”
While this safety course will help them in case of an emergency in the kitchen at school, it can also help them in case they encounter a fire anywhere, whether it’s at home, in a car, a restaurant, or anywhere that a fire can ignite. Fire Marshal Chris Cuddihee made sure to thoroughly explain where every fire safety item is in the kitchen.
“We’re teaching them fire safety within the classroom, telling them about sprinkler systems, talking about the suppression system in the kitchen, talking about water extinguishers, ABC extinguishers, and class K extinguishers,” Cuddihee said.

Fire safety is and has been the number one thing that people need to learn at a young age. It is very important to know how to protect yourself and put out any fire that you encounter, no matter where it is.
