Gobbling Gratitude

Liberty‘s Turkey Drive is a way to give love this holiday season.
Whether in cash donation or a physical turkey, this drive is an opportunity to provide a sentimental security to local families this Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving meal has become a ubiquitous symbol of glad tidings to families across our country. Liberty is working to ensure this tradition is available to all this season.

This year, Liberty High School is aspiring to supply over 200 turkeys this year in their annual drive. Clubs and sport organizations from around the school collectively support this cause, in the encouragement of donation and promotion to members.

Involvement in this event is efficient and easy; cash is accepted from Nov 7-19, and physical turkeys are collected before school on the 19th.

All turkeys and donations go directly to families within our community.

“A student will feel proud to be a part of something that gives back to others during the very stressful holiday season,” Ms. McMillen, who is spearheading this drive, said. “The Turkey Drive is the easiest event to be a part of. It doesn’t require any attendance or any long hours, just simply bringing a turkey or donating money to the cause.”

A universal sense of gratitude has been cultivated to represent this season as trees withdraw their pigment, and the brisk wind comes out to dance among their leaves.

Cultures of those across the globe, now inhabiting America, have diversified the holiday, and sewed into the rich tapestry of American history.

In all their differences, however, sitting down with loved ones and sharing a meal has served as a critical center. We are given the opportunity, now, within our community, to support that vision, and bring it to life to those that may struggle with the actualization of such.

“Giving to me means helping people who are in need,” Isaiah Byre (12) said.

This Thanksgiving, let’s be reminded of those simple moments of love, amidst struggle. And in such, let’s consider the power we have to alleviate hardship for others, with so much as a turkey.

Your donation will support the student journalists of Liberty High School. For the 2025-26 school year, we are trying to purchase additional cameras and video equipment for our growing media program. We also plan to attend the national journalism conference in Orlando in November 2026.
