The boys and girls wrestling team has improved a lot throughout the season. They are going to show their skills at the Gateway Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend at Francis Howell. GAC’s are an important tournament because it determines where they are seeded at districts.

The boys varsity wrestlers have found a lot of success throughout the season. They have won three of their four duals. The girls varsity wrestlers have found success early in the season, they have won two of their four duals. Both teams have had many wrestlers win tournaments such as Maddox Jones (12) wrestling at 190, Tristen Murphy (11) wrestling 138, Lesley Caamano-Briones (11) wrestling at 125, and Alexa Daniels (11) wrestling at 140.

The wrestlers have been going through many workouts and drills to prepare. Someone who has been putting their effort into these drills is Isabella Smith (12).

“I’ve been preparing on and off the mat, not only in practice but with my diet, running, and my sleep habits,” Smith said.

The wrestlers aren’t the only ones doing things to prepare for this tournament. The coaches have been a huge help for these wrestlers.

“They yell at us in a family friendly way, and they are there to support us through the tough losses,” Murphy said.

Madilyn Headley (10) said, “My coaches have been very helpful with making sure we get in good practices and helping us with things we may struggle with. The coaches also wrestle with people in the room, that really helps because they are constantly on you so you’re well conditioned for a match.”

The wrestlers have much to look forward to this weekend at GAC’s. They are ready and excited to compete for the win and a chance to be seeded highly at districts.
