FCCLA competes at regionals and wins two gold medals.

This week two teams from FCCLA went to regionals in Montgomery City on Jan. 29. Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a club at Liberty that does community service work and projects.

Emma Benesek and Kaitlyn Yoder competed with their fundraiser Ornaments for Orphans while Daelyn Nilges and Abbi Visconti did a winter coat drive. Both teams got gold at regionals and qualified to go to states in March.

“It teaches students that when you give you receive. Being a leader is hard and it’s not easy, but it is very rewarding, ” FCCLA sponsor Ms. Pizzo said.

Kaitlyn Yoder and Emma Benesek raise money for Crisis Nursery through selling ornaments.

Ornaments for Orphans was entered into the Focus on the Children category. The category focused on service projects that had to do with helping kids and their development. For their project, they sold ornaments at the holiday bazaar. They then used the money to buy items for the Crisis Nursery. They ended up receiving a gold medal in the category.

“I have learned a lot of leadership skills, you have to take a lot of projects into your own hands and you get a lot of experience organizing people,” Benesek said.

The winter coat drive, was entered Chapter Service Project Display category. The category focused on helping the people of the community. For Nilges and Visconti’s project, they went around the school put up posters and walked from class to class spreading the word during A.I. and they ended up receiving over 80 items. All the clothes went to the Salvation Army.

“My favorite part of the project was when we dropped it off at the Salvation Army and we got to see how excited they were to give it to all the people there,” Nilges said.

FCCLA meets two to three times a month. They do so many projects to help people in the community. They have hosted a Youth in Need dinner and are now selling the cakes for red night.

In March, FCCLA will be going to competing at states for the win. We wish everyone involved the best of luck.
