The table propped up by the office is a humble, standard, blue thing, bearing no great implications and asking not much of anyone in particular.

What stands out beyond the table, however, are those behind it. Those meticulously filling out a carefully crafted Google Sheet, utilizing all the tools becoming of a high school organization, and all the bandwidth supported by the limited WIFI.

For the past four years, since the birth of the association, Earth Club has organized varying events for Earth Week, pulling out the stops with thrift swaps, themed PSAs, and awareness campaigns.

This table, however, was set up for the annual Raffle Basket ticket sales. Not the most glamorous of the events, however, crucial in the fundraising for the posterity of the club in the following year’s budget.

The basket boasted a metal water bottle, metal straws, Earth-themed stickers, gardening gloves, and flower seeds, tied together with a matching ribbon. The theme was conservation, and a beckoning of spring, a bit of sunshine encapsulated in wicker.

The basket was organized, assembled, and raffled by a committee within the club, with Earth Club Treasurer Lorelei Wise as head.

“There is something sentimental about returning each year to a consistent project,” Wise (12) said. “It allows for a certain consistency when everything is changing.”

One of the most diligent shift-workers for the raffle was a member of the club who was not even within the Raffle Committee. They saw the significance of working together in support of a larger goal.

“It is important to put in the hours as a volunteer for the causes you love,” Jasmine Morris (11) said. “It shows commitment.”

The raffle basket winner will be drawn and distributed to the winner on Thursday, April 30 during Nest Time.
