Mr.McFadden goes up for a jump shot and two students block him. For the second time in a row the teachers won to help raise money for the Swofford Scholarship.

The teachers have bragging rights – again.

For the second-straight year, the teachers (Big Dippers) defeated the students (Little Dippers) at the annual Swofford game on April 20. The score of the game was 60-39.

“I love the spirit of competition and the idea of beating the seniors,” Mr. Hysong said.

The game has been a tradition for Holt and Timberland for 17 years and this is the second year Liberty has participated. This game was a senior vs. staff game to raise money for the Swofford Scholarship. The scholarship was named in honor of Scott Swofford, who was a football coach at Holt then Timberland.

Scott and Runa Swofford met at Holt High School in 1994 when she worked in the office and he was the football coach. They got married in 1997 on the 50 yard line of the Holt football field. They transferred to Timberland when it opened in 2000. While working there, Scott passed away before Timberland’s opening year was over. The students petitioned to have Timberland football field named after him and the first Swofford game was held at Holt in 2001.

A lot of planning went into the game throughout the week.

During the week before the game, StuCo was selling coupon books in order to help raise money for the scholarship.

“All the proceeds go to the Swofford Scholarship fund,” Mrs. Farrelly said, who is in charge of the Swofford event.

The theme of the game is “Little Dipper and Big Dipper” seamlessly tying in with the “Starry Night” theme of prom.

“It was really cool to see all the teachers and the seniors working so cohesively, and it was really fun to see everyone rooting for both sides of the game,” senior Andrea Detterman said.

Not only was it a good way for the student body and staff to get together, but it helps bond the school together.
