Students and staff organize dodgeball game to raise money for Liberty teacher/coach
Mr. Schaper was one of the teachers who participated in the dodgeball fundraiser.
Liberty’s P.E. teachers gave students a chance to opt out of that days scheduled work out plan for a game of dodgeball on Friday, April 20 as a fundraiser for teacher Mr. Flores.
“As many students know one of our beloved teachers, Coach Flores, had somewhat of a medical emergency a couple weeks back, and he’s missed a lot of work because of it. So to kind of supplement his income we thought it would be a good idea to have somewhat of a benefit for him, and we did that with a dodgeball fundraiser,” Coach Wheeler said.
Mr. Flores, who is the head softball and baseball coach, will be absent the rest of the year due to a sudden illness and the money raised will help fund his absence leave.
With an fee of just $5, approximately 300 students throughout the day got to play a few rounds of dodgeball, and listen to music instead of attending their regular P.E. classes. The students contributed $1,500 to help out with Mr. Flores’ spending needs while he is out of work.
“It was really fun, because I got to help out a teacher. I care about the teachers here, they help us learn,” Chase Roellig said.
“What the students have done has been an overwhelming success,” Coach Jolliff said.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Liberty High School. For the upcoming 2025-26 school year, we are trying to purchase additional cameras and video equipment for our growing media program. We also plan to attend the national journalism conference in Nashville in November.
