On March 26, Liberty’s HOSA chapter traveled to Rolla, Missouri to compete at the State Leadership Conference (SLC). This two day competition would determine who would compete at the International Leadership Conference (ILC) in Dallas, Texas this coming summer on June 20-23.

The top three competitors in each event qualify to go to Internationals. There will be eight students representing Liberty at the ILC this summer.

Sara Rowley placed first in the Healthy Lifestyle division and Audrey Chambers and Tian Heinle placed third in the Medical Innovation event. In the Parliamentary Procedure division, the team consisting of Daryn Adler, Lexi Guffey, Madi McGuire, Emily Ristevski and Marjouri Russo placed third. Also, Madi McGuire created a scrapbook that won the “Outstanding HOSA Chapter” award, and earned a spot at the ILC.

Competitors that placed but did not qualify for Internationals include Rishi Kondapaneni, who placed fourth in Medical Math, and Meghan Coyle, Sarvani Kunapareddy and Kendall Weber, who placed fourth in the Public Service Announcement division.

“It feels great to go in for the first time and place with all the upperclassmen,” Weber said, one of the only freshmen to place at this year’s conference.

Another event at the SLC is the induction of new state officers. This past school year, Liberty had two students represent Missouri HOSA, with Daryn Adler as State President and Lexi Guffey as State Historian.

There was one Liberty student inducted as a state officer for the next school year. Daryn Adler will be the Post Secondary Education Representative for Missouri while she attends Washington University.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing post secondary members get involved and see how the state’s going to change because of their involvement,” Adler said about the new position.

Liberty HOSA is hosting their own elections also. There are seven positions, and six will be available for next year.

Current President-Elect, Majouri Russo, will be President next year. All other current officers must be re-elected for the upcoming school year.

“We have a strong officer team. And looking at the applications that have already been turned in, we have a lot of good candidates for next year,” Mrs. Strathman said, who is the HOSA sponsor.

Applications are due by the end of the school day May 1 and are available to all HOSA members. Elections will be held in Strathman’s room at 7 p.m. on May 2.
