Driving With Greylin Jones
How can you become a safe driver?
February 22, 2019
Greylin Jones is a sophomore who loves to practice driving in his free time.
“My step father taught me how to manually drive a car,” Jones said. “I don’t have a license but I’m getting it on April 9 for my birthday this year. Driving manually isn’t as easy as it seems, it takes a lot more work and not very many people know how to do it.”
Jones had been driving since he was 15, and already has his very own car, a Subaru WRX which is considered a street racing vehicle.
“Everytime I switch gears I say ‘yeet’, I feel like it helps me drive and increases my focus and is makes everyone around me smile,” Jones’ stated jokingly.
“My tips for someone learning to drive are don’t be stupid, keep both hands on the wheel unless you drive manually, keep your eyes on the road and make sure you continuously check your blind spots.” Jones suggests.
Jones’ stepfather also taught him how to drive a motorcycle. Jones’ suggests that you should never overthink what you are doing and never lean, just move with the motorcycle when you drive.
Driving is something we will all learn how to do eventually, whether it’s automatic or manual. Driving causes many teens fear because it can have fatal results, but as long as you are smart and make sure you practice safe driving and be mindful of others around you, you’ll be just fine and maybe even drive as good as Greylin Jones.
