Godzilla vs. Kong Lives Up To The Hype
A look on a writer’s perspective on the ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ movie
May 8, 2021
In January of 2021 the first trailer of “Godzilla vs. Kong” was released. It seemed promising, but like every other CGI movie, there was special quirk to this movie. It seemed as though it wasn’t going to be like every other big animated animal movie franchise, where there’s an elongated pilot and a story that makes no sense. Instead, we got what we feared- this big fight and 99.99% percent not even make sense on why they are fighting.
In this film, King Kong and his protectors (for basically the whole movie) undertake a journey to try to find Kong’s true home. And along the way, Jia (Kaylee Hottle), an orphaned girl, forms a unique powerful bond with Kong. However, they soon find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla as he cuts a swath of destruction across the globe.
Like other movies in the so-called the “MonsterVerse”, Godzilla vs. Kong’s story begins with a mostly new cast. That being said, the main protagonists are once again connected to Monarch, a once-secret organization that’s been integral to the world of Godzilla and Kong since the launch of the MonsterVerse in 2014.
Millie Bobby Brown, known for starring in Netflix’s “Stranger Things” as Eleven, played Madison Russell in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” At first, she was an accomplice to her mother’s plan to unleash the Titans on the Earth, but eventually, her morality won out over her loyalty to her family. It was her decision to steal the Orca that led to Godzilla’s final victory over King Ghidorah in Boston. Her MonsterVerse storyline continues in “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which sends her on a path to understand the mystery of APEX and the real reason why Godzilla has turned on humanity.
I would rate this movie a 5 out of 5 and I would recommend it. Even if you don’t like Sci-Fi action movies, I would still watch it for the thrill and to have a great time with your family.
