Reverse Racism: Real Or No Deal?

We as society need to learn to respect our differences and look past them.

Reverse Racism, intolerance or prejudice directed at members of historically dominant racial groups, to sum it is when POC are racist and discriminatory towards white people.

To me, this is ignorant, being a “reversed racist” is just racist. When one is racist, they are discriminatory and prejudiced, to someone based on their ethnicity and racial group. So how does someone become and be a reverse racist? It just doesn’t make sense.

Discrimination against a person and or people simply because they look different than you is wrong. It is damaging to not only the racial group, but society. Minorities have had the brunt of this.

If you take a look at the word “reverse racism,” many people think of POC being racist to white people because, everyone knows that the most common form is white people being racist to POC. Let’s break down the word “reverse racist.”

Reverse means, opposite or contrary in position, direction, order, or character. Racist means a person who believes in racism, the doctrine that one’s own racial group is superior or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others. So, reverse means opposite, and racism is being discriminatory towards a different racial group than your own. So putting it together would be “the opposite of racial discrimination.” So how do we get “being racially insensitive and prejudice to a historically dominant racial group?” I don’t know.

The idea of race was created by white people of the past, meaning that the prejudice that people of color face is because of this construct. When white people experience prejudice because of their skin color, it is just that: prejudice. It is not possible for white people to experience racism.

In reality, there is no “reverse racism,” there is only racism. Which is wrong in itself. We as society need to learn to respect our differences and look past them.

There is no “I don’t see color,” because in reality if you don’t see their color, you don’t see them.
