Choir Hosts Spring Concert; 12 Qualify To State
March 14, 2022
It was a big week for Liberty choir, beginning with a district tournament, and then three days later the annual spring concert.
The spring “Rise Up” concert took place on March 8 in the LHS Performing Arts Center and was directed by Mr. Datz and Mr. Gleason. All the donations that were collected were given to Mercy Corps, an organization providing funding to communities in Ukraine, Romania, and Poland.
This was the second to last concert of the spring semester, which the choir has been preparing for since January. The pop concert in May will be the last concert of the school year and all of the “senior’s last hurrah,” according to Mr. Datz.
Sophomore Grace Edney, who was in the concert and also qualified for state, said that “this was one of the most interesting choir concerts I’ve ever been part of just because the song selections were all very different but complementing to each other.”
Choirs competed in the district Solo & Ensemble competition on Saturday, March 5. Twelve people from Liberty competed and six got exemplary ratings, which Datz explained is equivalent to a gold medal. Anna Wright, Morgan Feinstein, Cassie Tarrant, Liam Ovares, and Grace Edney all qualified for their solos. The Schlattman Michealaneous Ensemble also qualified, which includes Avery Schlattman, Anna Wright, Cassie Tarrant, Morgan Feinstein, Grace Edney, Nora Foeller, and Bee Boyer. These students will be participating in the state competition which will be held on Saturday, April 20.
The choirs also competed at the district Large Ensemble competition where the Select Treble Choir received a 2 and the Chamber Choir received a 1 (the highest score you can get).
“I’m so proud of everyone who qualified for solo and ensemble state and can’t wait to share that experience with them all,” Edney said.
