During her reign, Elizabeth faced many challenges like conflicts in Egypt, extensive criticism from the public, and Princess Diana’s death but she prevailed through all of it. And on September 9, 2015 she became the longest reigning monarch, passing her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II has taken a drastic toll on England. This loss will undoubtedly be felt throughout the country. After 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II ruling, the United Kingdom is forced to go through not only a difficult change but a sorrowful one.

On April 2, 1926, Queen Elizabeth and King George welcomed Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor into the world, shortly followed by her sister, Margaret Rose Windsor who was born in 1930. Both children were homeschooled by a private governess, responsible for teaching them what was to be expected from the both of them, as well as the proper etiquette of the Royal Family. As a result of homeschooling, Elizabeth was deprived of social interactions with other children around her age. In order to help her, a special “Girl’s Guide” company was created, where she would be able to socialize more. Elizabeth was raised in a large house in London which she moved out of when her father was crowned King, where they began living in the Buckingham Palace.

As tensions increased in Europe, the new King, alongside his wife, Queen Elizabeth, set out on a journey to restore public faith in the monarchy. So in 1939, the 13-year-old princess accompanied the King and Queen to the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth, where she was escorted by one of the cadets, her third cousin, Prince Philip of Greece.

On November 20, 1947, the Queen and Prince Philip got married in Westminster Abbey. Together, the couple had four children: Charles Philip Arthur George, Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, Andrew Albert Christian Edward, and Edward Anthony Richard Louis.

In January 1952, Elizabeth, accompanied by Philip, set off on an overseas tour, which was interrupted by the despairing news of King George VI’s death. This event marked the beginning of Queen Elizabeth’s rule. Despite the opposition of the prime minister, Elizabeth’s coronation was televised to millions of people on June 2, 1953.

During her reign, Elizabeth faced many challenges like conflicts in Egypt, extensive criticism from the public, and Princess Diana’s death but she prevailed through all of it. And on September 9, 2015, she became the longest reigning monarch, passing her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria.

She oversaw an extraordinary period for the United Kingdom. The queen made a colossal impact on her people and always had them in her best interest. But now, on Sept. 8, the Queen’s passing was announced to the public after serving for 70 years. The cause of death is still unknown, but sources claim that the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral during the afternoon. The Queen’s funeral will take place 10 days after her death, following the traditional national period of mourning. The Queen will eventually be laid to rest at Windsor.
