Going into the invitational the Liberty Belles had one goal.
“Our goal going into the day was to perform each routine better than they had so far, and the team met the goal,” Coach Amanda Miller said.
The Yvonne Cole Invitational was held on Dec. 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and hosted by Lindbergh High School. Each team had three different performance categories to execute: game day, lyrical jazz, and finally pom.
To accurately and fairly score each team on their performance, they were split in divisions. Each division was based on the size of the team, going from the smallest 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A, the biggest. Due to having 16 dancers on the team and 15 dancing that day, the team competes in the 4A division.
The other teams competing in the 4A Division along with Liberty were: Rock Bridge, Ladue, Kirkwood, Seckman, Parkway South, Lee’s Summit North, Timberland, Eureka, and Northwest.
Before going up to perform each dance, the Liberty Belles practiced around 60-90 minutes to further perfect their routine.
After each performance was finished by every school, awards were announced.
The Belles took first place for their lyrical jazz performance and second place for both the pom and game day performances.
Along with those awards the Liberty Belles got an “Outstanding Precision Award” for their game day routine as well as a “High Point Award” for having the highest points overall with three routines.
The Belles team learned their game day choreography in June, lyrical jazz choreography in August, and pom choreography in October. They spent around 12 hours learning each routine on choreography days to prepare for this invitational.
“We will work all season striving to be better and better, but we are also proud of the progress we’ve made along the way,” Miller said.
