In their final regular season home game of the season, the varsity football team rallied from last week’s defeat and produced a landslide victory over the Zumwalt East Lions at the pink out game that sets the Eagles up in good shape for the rest of the season.
The Lions (2-5) were running back home after their crushing defeat, 42-12. The Eagles improve their record to 4-3 and travel to Zumwalt South and Holt to finish the schedule before districts.
In both the first and fourth quarters the Eagles got two touchdowns followed by successful extra point kicks ending the first quarter 14-0 and the fourth quarter 42-12 Liberty.
The touchdowns were made (in order) by: Caleb Orcutt (10), Jaylen Mack (11), Jonah Kaler (10) and Riley Decaro (12). All kicks were made by Cody McMullen (12).
Following the first quarter, the second quarter had back-and-forth touchdowns starting with the Lions with a no good kick. Soon after we saw another touchdown for the Eagles and a kick made by McMullen. And ending the quarter, the Lions scored their second and last touchdown of the game followed with a failed two-point conversion bringing the quarter to a close with a score of 21-12 Liberty.
The third quarter was short and sweet, but absolutely crazy at the same time. We saw Mack receive the ball and sprint to make an 80-yard touchdown for his team. This was one of many big yardage plays for the Eagles. All of the team’s touchdown plays went for over 20 yards each.
The Eagles student section and everyone in the stands went wild, which continued after McMullen makes the kick ending the third quarter 28-12. The Eagles continued to walk high and mighty all the way through the last quarter ultimately winning the game 42-12.
