Fellowship of Christian Athletes is one of the fastest growing clubs on campus. With numbers of students attending ranging from 200-300, FCA has had to change their location from the band room to the theater, which gives them plenty of room to only grow for what the club’s future might hold.
“I would say we have on average a good 215 kids coming, which is such a drastic change from three years ago when we only had 10 or less. It’s amazing to see the amount of kids who want to learn about God grow because these kids are going to share it to other kids which will only bring in more,” club sponsor Ellie Ulsas said.
The students who come and attend are there for many different reasons. One might be because they want a stronger connection with God or learn about how God can change their life or someone they know. Either way, FCA can offer a student many opportunities to understand the true meaning of having a connection with God. Even if a student’s connection isn’t as strong as others, FCA still embraces them to help them realize it doesn’t matter how long someone has been following Christ, but help them realize that making an effort is all that is needed to truly be close to God.
FCA is a student-led club with members of the leadership team guiding worship to the students, as well as guest speakers like pastors and youth group leaders from various churches.
Most recently, the club has had members such as Layla Childers (10) and Ben Filla (10) share their experiences with God, hoping to influence others that having a connection with God in your life is important.
Childers was inspired to share her lesson to the students.
“I felt really empowered by the holy spirit,” Childers said. “I was super excited to get to share God’s word with all the students in attendance. I was nervous, but overall I was very fortunate to share with all the students.”
FCA’s main end goal is creating disciples in our school so the message of God can be poured out throughout Liberty High School. FCA looks at students not only as students wanting to learn more about God but as beacons of light that can shine the light of God’s grace.
FCA hopes to see even more students coming to meetings in the near future. Meetings take place during red lunch (1st half) in the theater room on Thursdays. An event coming up for FCA is “FCA’s Friendsgiving” at Bridge Church on Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
