People say that pickleball is a fairly easy sport and a good way to spend your pastime. You can even endeavor it professionally depending on your skills. Many students on our campus enjoy it and look forward to playing it.
Hadley Kendall (10), Grace Schell (10) and Kyelyn Carrara (10) decided to start this club to bring something new for students, and even teachers, just to switch up school life. It’s another way to get active during lunch, since basketball and volleyball isn’t for everyone.
“Our vision for the future of the club is to get some more popularity so that we can set up tournaments to raise money for local charities,” Kendall said.
They want to eventually make the club popular enough to hold tournaments and raise money for the community.
“We are currently working on a way to see if we can have official members or just run it like FCA where many people show up, but they haven’t had
to fill out a membership form,” Kendall said.
So, every Friday during lunch, three pickleball courts are set up and paddles are open to anyone who wants to play. Prior to pickleball club, many people would come into the small gym to hang out and play sports. More and more people flock into the gym to play pickleball with their friends and teachers.
Some students found out about it from the TVs or just happened to stumble across other students playing and decided to join in.
There’s a huge load of competition out on the small courts. Some students played against the principal himself, Edgar Nelson.
“Nelson needs to chill out,” Ameer Farooqui (9) said.
Swing, plock, swing, plock, swing, plock. From side to side, the players run and return the ball gracefully onto the other side of the net. There is no other club as fun and relaxing as this one.
“I definitely want to come back and play more often,” Allyson Mileszk (11) said.
