Sydney Lockwood’s first year as a math teacher so far has been packed with excitement as she begins her new position and celebrates her new marriage. Many students know her as Ms. Burgner, her maiden name.
“I love getting to know all the students and I love learning just as much as you guys,” Lockwood said.
Lockwood is very passionate about teaching, and continues to learn alongside her students.
“I love the ‘lightbulb’ moment when things click. Even more, I love celebrating that,” Lockwood said. “I want to broaden my methods to really help the students be thoroughly engaged.”
This school year Lockwood has a lot of significant goals for her and her students’ success.
Lockwood reveals her love for teaching came from her grandma, who was a career teacher. Lockwood shares how her and her grandma’s relationship is extremely close which truly inspired her choice of profession.
Lockwood’s students have also taken notice of her passion for teaching, and the new ways she chooses to teach.
One of her geometry students believes she knows how to connect and help the students.
“Mrs. Lockwood is very helpful, and very hands-on,” Ethan Edger (9) said.
“Mrs. Lockwood recommends that before we ask her a question, we ask our peers for help,” Sadeel Eid (10) said. “This is something that none of my previous teachers have ever told us to do.”
Lockwood mentions her favorite part that she enjoys about teaching.
“Every day is different, and as a teacher you kind of take it as the day goes,” Lockwood said.
Lockwood also mentions how ecstatic she is to be at Liberty for her first year of teaching.
“Liberty is a great school to be at,” Lockwood said.
Overall, Lockwood is overjoyed to spend her first year at Liberty, and is very passionate about teaching, and truly cares about students’ education.

I couldn’t be more proud of my granddaughter Mrs. Lockwood. Her interest in teaching began many years ago when she started asking me about my own experiences with 34 years in the field of education. I’m so very glad that she understands the importance of connecting with her students and hope she cherishes her teaching memories.
