Everybody has seen the amazing sculptures in front of the 400 hallway. Those gorgeous works of art were made by Mrs. Biere’s sculpture class. Their only criteria for the project was to make their art meaningful.

“I wanted the students to try to understand how to capture the emotions of their viewers,” Biere said. “The concept of making meaningful art helps the artist to think a deeper level and consider the impact their art will have on its viewers.”

The projects took about a month of hard work and dedication to complete. The artists had to overcome the obstacles of working with material which can scratch and cut your skin. The chicken wire is also hard to manipulate and seam together.

“I am proud that all of my students worked so hard to make this artwork even though it was very challenging,” Biere said.

Claire Roberts created this sculpture called “What the Cluck?”

Senior Mishell Sobieski is one of the artists that took on this tough challenge. She created a koi fish sculpture. Her project, however, is not finished. It’s to be put on a wooden slab. When light hits the art, it shows a shadow of a Koi fish swimming.

“I like how structured it is. Some art you don’t really have a direction, but with this you knew what you were supposed to be building up to,” Sobieski said.

Biere does this project every year to teach students the impact their art can make on it’s viewer. She also wants to inspire them to make more art and show them how much people have taken notice of their hard work.

“I liked working with the wire and the tools to make it because I have never done it before,” junior Colin Kussman said.

Art in the form of sculpture can bring depth to an artist’s creation. The students in Biere’s sculpture class brought a creative environment into the 400 hallway. Please stop by and give their artwork the credit and appreciation it deserves.
