What is the Swofford Game?
The Swofford Game is a school tradition where seniors and staff face off in a basketball game during school. This game is played at all four Wentzville School District high schools, and is named after Scott Swofford, a former Holt and Timberland coach, who suddenly passed away in 2000. His wife shortly later organized this event to raise money for scholarships for students all across the WSD.
History of the Swofford Game
For Liberty’s Swofford Game, the staff has won every single year that this great game has been played. For six years, staff has dominated the court, and this year’s students are determined to change that. The game will take place on Thursday, April 9 during an all-school assembly. Ninth hour Nest and sixth hour will flip. The game will be during what would be Nest time at the end of the day. Classes will be dismissed to the gym beginning at 1:18 p.m.
The main obstacle standing in the way for the seniors has always been Coach Luedecke. He led the teachers to a 41-26 victory last year. So we’ll have to see if the seniors can finally overcome that obstacle.
