After edging out a win by one stroke, Liberty’s golf team took the GAC title for their first time. The battle between them and Fort Zumwalt South was close throughout the match.

A victory in general is a great feeling, but to win as a team makes the achievement even better. The golf team’s success came from every player doing their part with being consistent during each competition. Freshman Ro Razavi was very successful in his first high school season being one of the top golfers on the team, but he also is very passionate about the team being at their best.

“Progression is always key with a team like this, no matter what year it is everyone just has to progress from [a season] like this,” Razavi said.

With a player like Razavi being successful early on in his golf career, there are also players like senior Hyatt Hines being one of the better golfers in the area in his final high school season. Hines shot a 2-under in the rain and won the conference tournament and was named the conference player of the year. Sam Schreiner also had a strong tournament finishing third.

Playing golf at the University of Texas-Tyler next year, Hines is happy with the season he had to finish off his years playing golf at Liberty.

“Other than school, the main focus going [to Texas] is to play golf so I’m excited to see how much better I’m going to get and hopefully win a title there too,” Hines said. “Everyone pulled through [this season] when they needed to and got it done to [win conference].”

The team played at districts and had three golfers finish in the top 15: Hines (10th place), Razavi (11th) and Sam Scognamiglio (14th).

From freshmen to seniors at Liberty doing their part for the GAC championship, the varsity boys golf team and their coach, Coach Lindsay, look to more success like they’ve had this season going forward.
