The girls’ varsity tennis team has made a sublime start to their season. The Eagles currently have an impressive record of 12-1.

Their stately run started with four straight wins in the Troy Doubles Tournament from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2. They defeated each of their opponents 9-0.

The Eagles continued this triumphant spirit in the Mid Mo. Duals tournament, in which they won two of the three games they played.

Afterward, in the FHC Ladies Doubles Tennis Tournament and the Eagles again proved their skill by succeeding in all four of their matchups. This included wins against Holt and Francis Howell Central.

Liberty battered St. Dominic on Senior Night and trounced St. Charles West the day after, winning both contests 9-0.

The girls’ tennis team has defeated all of their opponents so far with a perfect score of 9-0, with the exception of a win against Kickapoo 6-3 and a loss to Rock Bridge.

Coach Campos commented on what he thinks has contributed to the team’s success.

“The girls all know each other, so I think having that relationship between each other has helped them,” Campos said.

When asked which rival schools they are looking forward to playing soon, he mentioned the game versus Timberland on Thursday, Sept. 23, as well as the match against Fort Zumwalt West on Friday, Sept. 24.

In comparison to the Timberland team, he said, “These past couple of years we both have been taking people to state [championships], so we’ll be seeing what happens between both of us and seeing where we’re at.”

Liberty finished the previous season with an overall record of 13-5, which consisted of victories over schools like Troy Buchanan and Fort Zumwalt South. They were also Class 2 District 4 champions that year.

Campos stated that this season, the team is looking to defend the GAC Championship that they won last year along with securing the district title.

The Liberty tennis team was promoted to Class 3 in District 4 this season, and thus they will play among more powerful teams like Rock Bridge and Timberland.

After winning the aforementioned game against St. Charles West, the Eagles’ next fixture will be at Timberland (who has a 9-1 record) on Thursday, Sep. 23, 3:30 p.m.
