Love On A Leash® is a non-profit organization that looks to provide comfort, happiness, and most importantly healing to local communities, through pet – provided therapy. Love On A Leash® wants to raise more public awareness of pet-provided therapy as well. And on Sept. 4, they visited the library at Liberty High School.
Librarian Nikki Playle had some key insight on this event and its history.
“The kids really enjoy this event,” Playle said. “I mean, it’s good for the kids and the dogs. Especially since some of the dogs are still in training. I actually inherited this event as well, and we’ve done it over three years. We’re probably the only high school in the area that has it.”
Next, Playle went on to express what Love On A Leash® represents as a whole.
Then, one of the volunteers from the dog therapy team, Leigh George, further explained what her organization does.
“We provide therapy dogs to bring joy and comfort to hospitals, nursing homes, and schools,” George said. “Kids can come and read to the dogs, and we work with all ages, from preschools to senior facilities.”
George then later expounded on why pet-provided therapy is so important.
“Seniors don’t get a lot of visitors, so the dogs can brighten their day, and make them think back to the past as well,” George said. “Also, when we do library visits with kids, they feel more comforted and less judged when reading to the dogs.”
Additionally, a student who attended, Elly Rentfro (10), shared her perspective on the event.
“I chose to come to this event because I love dogs and I usually get my work done pretty quick in NEST time, so this seemed like it would be a really cute thing to do to pass the time,” Rentfro said. “I am absolutely enjoying this event as well. These dogs are so cute and they look so.”
Lastly, Rentfro added if, overall, she would recommend the event or not.
“I highly recommend it, it’s so fun. I also thought it would be more rowdy but it’s actually pretty peaceful,” Rentfro said.
