Last week, Earth Club hosted a bake sale at lunch to raise money for a charity voted on by the members beforehand. In more ways than one, the members helped out the community and the environment by selling home baked cookies that got students excited for the season with the taste of holiday themed treats.
The bake sale lasted for three days and relied on volunteers who signed up that were in the club. Many of the members helped out and the group came together with the goal of helping out for the environment.
Some of the participants and board members in the club reflect on the time volunteering for the stand as fun and a learning experience.
“It was wonderful to be able to contribute to the process of a new fundraiser for such an important cause, from the creative and research perspective in the posters, to the social and marketing perspective in selling. It was a wholesome and fulfilling experience, and I am proud of our club.” Lorelei Wise (12) said. Something so mundane as a bake sale can not only be rewarding, but can help out the environment in a monumental way.
The charity that Earth Club chose to donate to was Oceana, a nonprofit organization designated solely on conserving the ocean through science, law, and public engagement. Earth Club donated all of the proceeds to the charity, which totaled to be $75.25.
Some members report more about the Club’s effort and togetherness of the group.
“I am so proud of how everyone came together to work on this- there were multiple moving parts, and there was collaboration at each segment of the project. It was great to see the club get involved, and to see students take interest in our project once we got to the actual sale,” board member Leah Dudley said. “I am so incredibly proud of the money we raised – Liberty’s Earth Club isn’t just talk, we actually make a difference and take action. Oceana is a fantastic organization, and I feel really good about being able to contribute to their work.”
