Within every person you meet, there is a talent of some kind buried with in them, engraved in their soul. Some may be an athletic superstar. Others may have a deep passion for dance. But for junior Drew Goodman, sculpting is his.

Goodman began sculpting and working with ceramics his freshman year at LHS in art class. With a few years of drawing before hand, he settled into his new passion quickly.

“It helps me release all of my anxiety and it lets me look away from all of the negative things that are around me,” Goodman said.

Not only does Goodman find positivity in sculpting, but also challenges aside from his daily classes. It gives him a harder task and a chance to work his brain in a different way than in any of his core classes.

Goodman’s AP ceramics teacher, Mr. Tiemann, finds that Goodman is not afraid to express his personality through art in unique and different ways.

“Drew has a unique style that expresses who he is as an individual and he is excited to share that with people through various forms of art such as sculptures and clay,” Tiemann said.

Sometimes Goodman will find himself looking at specific ceramic and sculpting trends that have started over the years. However, he doesn’t follow a specific art style, rather basing what he creates off of his personal life experiences.

“I mostly (create) things that come across me in my life, like my experiences, things that affect my life majorly,” Goodman said.

With the ways of life guiding him through his work, Goodman learns with every step of the way. It has taught him that patience is priceless, and how to find a voice.

“Art has helped me realize that you can speak without words,” he said.

With each person comes a talent that is special to them, no matter how large or small. For Goodman, it comes to life whenever his hands find the next sculpture to create.
