In September, Mr. Schumacher’s first hour Job Prep class, decided to adopt a 2-month-old dairy cow though a website that allows classes to adopt cows for free.

“I really believe that students should have a voice in the class, so we had a discussion and decided that this was something we were all interested in,” Schumacher said.

The class came up with their favorite names for the cow and then voted. They decided on senior Trey Harris’s name, Holy Cow.

“I think this experience is awesome,” Harris said. “Each month we get an email about how the cow is doing.”

The class has been given some writing prompts on how they would take care of Holy Cow. They also learn what the steps are to get the cow’s milk to the milk you see on the shelves at your local grocery store.

The class will implement the cow into discussions on many different jobs, such as farming and agriculture. It also brings up a great conversation on working with pets and adopting.

“I think it would be a cool experience for people that haven’t lived around farms and cows,”  sophomore Shaina Feinstein said.

This experience gives students more insight on a different job out there and allows them to think beyond the normal classroom experience.
