On Saturday, October 1st Liberty’s boys swim team took first in their meet against eight other team at the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational at the St. Peter’s Rec-Plex. In addition to this impressive victory, every athlete medaled in their events and 14 personal records were made.

“This is a first for our program, and the guys were really excited about it,” coach Rackovan said.

After much work and a long day of swimming, the boys anxiously waited to see where they placed. At the time, Rackovan said she was 85 percent sure they won the whole meet which was “a very big deal.” The tension built and as it narrowed down, the normally rambunctious athletes were silent.

There was much celebration, cheers and smiles as it was announced that Liberty took the win over the last remaining team, Lutheran St. Charles by nine points.

The first place plaque was handed over to a beaming Coach Rackovan.

After taking pictures, the boys basked in the victory by jumping in the pool (medals on and all) and loudly singing the Wehrenberg theatre song, laughing and excessive dabbing “Hard work really does pay off!”

The swim team members are Kevin Berry, Ian Herling, Josh Roberts, Jacob Erickson, Aiden Rethmeir, Tommy Burtelow, Devon Viernes, Shea Myers, Lucas Sproull, Eric Hudson, Alex Vigor, JT Bonds and Zach Meyers.
