Album cover for Tate McRae’s second album, “Think Later” that was released on Dec. 8.
Tate McRae is an upcoming artist with a unique voice and songs that range from confident to depressing. Several of her songs have become Tik Tok hits leading to millions of views and a smashing start to the young artist. She released her song “Greedy” in September after teasing the release on social media for over a month and released her song “Exes” about two months later. Both songs are part of her second album “Think Later.” The album was officially released on Dec. 8 and consists of 14 tracks. I’m going to be ranking the songs based on different elements and my personal preference.
‘Think Later’ Review
14- Stay Done
Out of all the songs on this album this is the one that I feel lacked. It is the hardest to remember and the lyrics, while still good to a degree, aren't as good as the other songs from this album. This song is harder to remember and comparing it to all the other songs of the same theme this one is the worst to me.
13- Want That Too
This song is just not really a stand out. The music is good and the lyrics are fine but compared to the others on this list it just falls short. It has a similar theme of being in or having a toxic relationship in your life. The others just do a better job of showcasing this theme.
12- Plastic Palm Trees
While this is a good song, it is definitely not a stand out. If I was going to have to skip along, it would be this one. It felt repetitive at times and like I just kept hearing the same thing. The meaning of this song is also harder to understand unless you are really thinking about it. This makes it harder to enjoy. The music itself is nice and catchy but the lyrics are lacking compared to other songs.
11- Calgary
I like this song. It’s a good song with pretty good lyrics. Its slightly more depressing theme works and is done in an enjoyable way. I feel like it captures being a young adult and the feelings that go in that realm well. While this song is good and I don’t have many complaints about it, other songs on this list are better.
10- Grave
This song is about at the same level as Calgary. It is a good song and also has a more depressing sound. It talks about how trying to change people sometimes only works in your downfall. It’s meaning is powerful but the other songs on this list are better.
9- Messier
Another song about a romantic relationship and how messy and toxic it can be. While not the best of the songs in this album about that concept it’s also not the worst by any means. The song is good and can put you into your feelings if you let it. This is the longest song of the album spanning at almost four minutes.
8- Think Later
This song is about doing what you want and not thinking about what could happen. Just living in the moment. While this is one of the more repetitive songs I didn't seem to mind it all that much with this song. The whole song gave off a strong and confident vibe which I really like.
7- Guilty Conscience
I think a lot of people could relate to this song. The aftermath of a relationship can bring many thoughts and feelings and this song captures them all well. The writing in this song is great and you can tell what they wanted to do and wanted you to take away from the song.
6- Exes
The second song to be released for the album. This song had a different feeling to it than the others did. While a lot of them talked about toxic relationships and people or living life, this one was different. While it was still about relationships, this one is a fierce ode to her exes. The song gives a more powerful and confident outlook to past relationships. All of that with a beat that will get stuck in your head makes it great.
5- Run For The Hills
Yet again another song about a toxic relationship and what that does to you. While this topic is used quite a bit in this album each song is different and unique enough to make it work, and this song is no different. It’s sad and the emotions flow though with each line sung.
4- We’re Not Alike
One of the few songs that has nothing to do with a romantic relationship. Instead it is talking about feeling betrayed by a friend. It has a strong beat and really gives power to the feelings being expressed in the song. The topic is one that I also think is relatable to a lot of people, who have also been hurt by someone they trusted.
3- Hurt My Feelings
This song is just great. The meaning of the song was clear and the lyrics made the song stand out. This song had a darker meaning but with a more high-energy pop sound. That alone made this song stand out.
2- Greedy
The first song that was released for the album before the album was even announced. This song became popular for a reason. It’s catchy and relatable. Talking about being hit on by someone you would rather not be. The lyrics are outstanding and gives off a confident feeling.
1- Cut My Hair
The opening song of the album. This song is amazing. It’s catchy and gets caught in your head. It displays a fun time in your young adult life. Living your life and finding someone. The lyrics are done fantastically. It’s upbeat and fun. This song makes you feel what the song is talking about.
