What is with all of the goggles?
So many strangers and underclassmen have been asking, what is with all of the swim goggles?
It’s for a game that all of the seniors are playing called Senior Assassin. It really grew in popularity around the country soon after Covid, and now many schools in the Wentzville area have started doing it as well.
Senior Assassin is a competitive tournament where your objective is to eliminate players with water guns. When the game starts, you are assigned a player that you have to eliminate with a water gun which means somebody will be targeting you as well. Players are allowed to use goggles to be immune to the shots from the water gun to avoid being eliminated. You have to record and have proof that you eliminated your target.
For the game, players use an app called Splashin which has a map to track your targets. If you do not eliminate your target by the end of the week’s time limit, you are eliminated so you won’t be able to hide forever. And whoever wins will win all of the money from all of the players who entered into the game which is $580.
Rules may vary depending on player/school preferences, but for Liberty High School, this is what we have picked.
There are so many different ways to play the game. Be very aggressive or passive. It all varies from player to player.
“My strategy was to get my target early and then hide and keep my goggles on all of the time even in drive throughs,” Madi Maetten (12) said.
Many people are very dedicated to win the whole thing but some people just play to have fun.
“I did not in the slightest think I was going to win, hopefully first round or first day. That did not happen but it’s fine,” Lauren Wiley (12) said.
Behind the scenes running the whole thing is class president Ryleigh McKinney (12). She has been managing the event, posting on Instagram with all of the eliminations with the video and commenting as well as playing the game with the rest of the seniors. She has been very helpful with answering questions and clarifications.
“It’s been a lot more difficult than I anticipated, like having to keep track of everyone and answering questions and people being upset with the decisions I’m making so it’s taking more of my time and more than I thought it would be,” McKinney said. “It’s been very hard cause I’ve been out trying to get my target and then everyone has been sending in videos so then I have to pause on trying to get my target than worrying about everyone else. So I haven’t really had time to get my target.”
McKinney has been patient with many people. Many people have been upset even if they got out completely fair, but what can you expect with a game that has a big prize pot.
Overall, most people are having a lot of fun playing and hopefully people can just look past the prize and have fun in and outside of school with their classmates.
