Fashion has always been controversial since people started wearing clothes in the first place. There’s always at least two or three big trends in fashion every year that catch people’s attention. However, where there’s attention and people adoring certain looks, there’s also people who think those same looks aren’t “all that” or strongly dislike them. According to Style Magazines, 2024 is the year of maximalist fashion. So let’s talk about it.
Animal Fur Boots
Animal fur boots have become a statement trend in 2024, but are we bringing them into the new year?
Animal faux fur boots are just regular winter boots with a little something extra. The entire outside of the boots are covered in faux animal fur making the boots look super fluffy and warm. While you’ll usually see them in the winter because of the cold weather, people wear them as a fashion statement year round.
Payton Unnerstall (10) doesn’t agree.
“It looks like you’re stepping on a puppy,” Unnerstall said.
She also says that they aren’t practical and look like they could be destroyed by a little water (especially during winter with all the snow). Unnerstall won’t be wearing them at all this year, stating, “they’re just ugly”. I guess we’ll have to see if they stay a trend in 2025.
Tight Skinny Jeans
Let me start by saying skinny jeans have been around for ages. Women and men have worn them continuously for as long as I can remember. At the mall, in school, the park, the grocery store, everywhere.
We all know what skinny jeans look like; jeans, but a little tighter. During the year 2024, people took skinny jeans to a new level. They aren’t just normal jeans that are more fitted or a little tighter than usual, they’re literally breathtaking.
“They make you look like you can’t breathe,” Kennedy Hicks (10) said. “It’s not my preference, but is it anyone’s.”
For a while users on social media like TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms would make it a trend to buy skinny jeans in a size smaller than their true size so they could be, according to captions on social media,“snatched” or “curvy”. According to some students, there’s other ways to do that. Some just don’t like the style at all.
Bows
The bow design has become super popular during the 2024 year. For a while it was insanely popular on social media platforms as well as in the market. People were selling and buying sweatshirts, water bottles, jeans, bed sheets, wall art, and more, all with a bow design on it. Any basic item was being sold for 3 times the price if it had a bow on it. This was mostly happening to clothing items. People have mixed feelings about the trend as some people said it was “too much”, while others said it was a cute and unique trend during 2024.
According to many people on the social media platform, TikTok, bows deserve to stay in the past. Even though it was a very popular trend, Everleigh GRWM, a popular “TikToker” who has been getting more attention recently, says the bow trend was a “waste of money.” She asks her viewers,”why would I buy the same pair of jeans for double the price just because a bow is embroidered on the waistband? You can’t even see it.” This spoke to viewers for different reasons, the main reason being her current status. Even though she has the funds to afford overpriced trendy clothing pieces, not even she sees the point. After a while, the trend was left behind with other outdated fashion trends.
Overall, all trends have some controversy to them along with mixed feelings and opinions. What’s trendy to some, isn’t trendy to all. What do you think? Are any of these trends going to make it to the new year?
