As we end the 2024-25 school year, the LHS staff got the chance to nominate students for the second annual Liberty Legends ceremony. This event was created last year to showcase the students who show outstanding bravery, kindness, and leadership in and out of class.
“I was so excited when I got the letter. I wasn’t sure what it was exactly but I was happy to have won the award,” Reese Bedford (12) said.
Part of the fun within the event is that the students received a letter about a week before, telling them that they were nominated, but not by who. This leaves the student wondering and questioning who would be giving this award to them.
“I wasn’t sure who nominated me at all, but I was so happy when I saw Mrs. McFadden. I absolutely love being in Careers in Education Practicum, and I feel like I work really hard in there to make good lesson plans and to handle my class well,” Bedford said.
The students who received this letter, and whoever they choose to bring as guests, showed up to the school on the morning of April 21 in the auditorium. The nominated students would then be called up on stage alphabetically to have their award handed to them by the teacher who nominated them, and a medal placed around their neck by assistant principal Mr. Schumacher.
“I feel so privileged and recognized,” Sophia Frerichs (9) said. “To know that it has only been my first year at Liberty and I’ve already received so much praise and appreciation for my work ethic makes me feel so blessed and excited for what the next three years have in store for me.”
This year, there were 53 students selected for this award. Below are the students and the staff that nominated them.
