Raising money for a good cause has consistently shown to be an area of importance at our school. On Feb. 20, during the annual Coaches vs. Cancer basketball games, Student Council focused on raising money towards fighting cancer. There were multiple events held to raise money during the game; one of the most popular ones was the cakewalk that totaled $146 in fundraising.
The cakewalk was organized and executed by student council. In order to gather cakes, they reached out to different clubs for donations to fund the event. Some cakes were homemade, while others were ordered through bakeries. Either way, the cakes were voluntarily produced and provided by different organizations throughout school.

“All the clubs make cakes and we lay them out so that people and visitors can come to auction them off,” Leah Zaat (11) said.
Bidding on cakes takes place from the beginning the game to the near end of third quarter. Then, once winners are identified, they are notified via phone call to pick up their cake.
Although the process may seem extensive, it’s all for an important cause: fighting cancer.
“The money goes towards cancer research and helping people learn more about it,” Lorrin Schatteman (10) said.
The money helps individuals and families affected by cancer. By raising money for research and helping impacted people, LHS shows priority in helping communities.
Overall, the cakewalk has greatly helped raise money for a cause, reinforcing the lead our school takes in fundraising.
