The girls tennis team are champions of the GAC for the second year in a row.

They fell a win short of winning the district title for their second year in a row as well but finished strong. The tennis team started off slow and for some it was surprising how well the team turned around and performed at the end.

“We had a slow start to the year, but I’m happy that the team pulled it together as the season went on,” junior Nawal Cheema said.

After winning their conference championship, they didn’t stop there and won their next two games in districts against Fort Zumwalt North and Timberland advancing to the district finals. They came up short and lost to Fort Zumwalt West, but the team was happy getting that far regardless.

“It was a really exciting season and I’m proud of the team for getting this far,” junior Breonna Gillam said.

There is no doubt this season ended well for Liberty’s girls tennis and winning conference for the second year in a row is a great accomplishment. Cheema also qualified for the sectional meet for the third season in a row.

The team finished this season with a record of 11-3 and Coach Kleiber only hopes the Eagles continue to improve next season.

“Hopefully next year’s team can improve and continue to win and hopefully we can stay healthy next season and take fitness more seriously,” Coach Kleiber said.

Eagles’ Girls Tennis wins another conference championship and look forward to more success in future seasons.
