At the young age of 16, senior Jenna Fallert, found her passion on YouTube when she stumbled onto an art channel named Madeyewlook that was focused on body painting. Soon after that she purchased her own supplies to work with.

“It was a new art media I was so excited to try,” Fallert said.

Face and body painting is incredibly unique, and people tend to shy away from it. Body painting itself requires a much different approach than face painting.

“I think the fact that it’s on the human body makes it stand out and the fact that many people don’t do it,” Fallert said. “People tend to stay away from things that make them uncomfortable and the human body makes most people pretty uncomfortable.”

Aside from the fact that it tends to be uncomfortable for some people, it also takes a lot of patience to master this field of art that Fallert was able to conquer.

“Dedication. I sometimes spend up to five hours on a face or body painting just to end up washing it all off to start over,” Fallert said.

Any field of art takes a lot of time and practice to master. Fallert found time to paint whenever she could even though her busy schedule made it difficult to.

“When I first started, I did a painting every weekend. Nowadays I try to do a full piece once a month. Just because school and work takes up most of my time. When it’s October, I try to make as many paintings as I can to celebrate Halloween, my favorite holiday,” Fallert said.

Often, Fallert practices painting in her room, other times she profits from painting faces at parties.

“I do make a decent amount doing parties, but for now it’s not a big paying hobby,” Fallert said.

Her sister, Julia, is impressed with her work.

“It takes a huge amount of patience and discipline to spend hours doing something and end up just washing it off at the end,” Julia said. “I do a lot of art in my free time to make physical things that I can keep but to just end up washing it off I wouldn’t be able to do.”

In her future, Jenna is hoping to paint faces and bodies as a side job, but she has a different artistic field in mind for the future.

“I would love to do some small jobs as a body painter on movies, TV shows, maybe even music videos or ads. But I have a different field in mind. I actually want to be a game designer. Start off as a character creator, as well as a scene animator. You have to be good in a lot of fields to become a head designer.”

Fallert’s interest in art has carried her far and she is excited to see what she can do in the future.
