The Liberty cross country team has competed in a lot of big races this year but none as big as the one they have at the University of Kansas.

Coaches Toby Glavin, Daniel Sacre and Sheldon Webster will be taking the cross country team to K.U. for a meet, with over 35 other high schools, in celebration of their first year with seniors.

“There aren’t any team expectations as this is our first year with seniors, but we do expect some kids to medal,” says assistant coach Daniel Sacre.

The team is really excited for the trip. They are all looking forward to getting to know each other more and to run at such a prestigious school.

Even though it is a big race, the team’s preparation stays the same. First, they start with a team meeting to see how everyone is feeling, what they need to work on, stretch and what the plan is for the day. Then, they usually do a 15 minute warm up run. Finally, they get into their workouts. Their workouts can consist of long runs or a short run with little rest.

The only big difference is that they will be on a bus for four hours the day before the race. Once the runners get there they will run the course to get a feel for it. Then, the next day they will run the race.

It’ll be a very fun weekend for the cross country team as they get to know each other more and participate in the sport they love.
