Starting Sunday night, thunderstorms could be heard all around the St. Charles County area, increasing students and parents wonders about school on Monday, April 27.
The Wentzville School District announced via text to all parents and staff at 10:26 a.m. on Monday that all schools in the district would get out approximately two hours early. At Liberty, principal Dr. Ed Nelson announced to all students around 10:30 a.m. that lunch would be starting immediately, so students could get to the rest of their classes for the day.
It was announced earlier in the morning that all after school activities would be canceled for the day.
While there was speculation from all students, staff, and parents about the schedule for school today, this announcement came as an excitement for many students.
With the announcement coming early enough, the staff was able to come up with a modified schedule for the rest of the school day. With the shortened schedule, classes were not to be dismissed by bell, but rather from the intercom after each class. Classes were 20 minutes long, still keeping the five minute passing period as usual. Lunch was also shortened to 15 minutes, spanning from 10:30 – 10:45.
This is the second time an early release has been called during the school day this year, with the first one being called on Dec. 1, 2025 due to winter weather conditions.
As the last day of school has already been set for May 22, along with this being an early release, this early dismissal will not count against the district for the end of the year.
