Transitioning to a new school can be hard. This year’s freshman have a different experience than past years at this school. Jumping from top of the school to the bottom in a split second is very challenging. They are the first year to do it with all four grades. This sounds pretty daunting. What is it like from their perspective?

Katelyn Yoder

Katelyn Yoder is a bright girl who loves baking, babysitting and doing crafts. She was nervous on the first day of school because she is the eldest child in her family and was walking into this situation almost blind. Yoder thinks one of the hardest part of being at Liberty is getting used to walking the greater distance to get to classes. “This year has a lot more homework than last. It is a little tough to get used to the massive homework load. I spent about three in a half hours on homework last night!” Katelyn said. Her favorite class is child development because she gets to learn about kids and how to care for them better.

Emma Benesek

Emma Benesek enjoys playing soccer and is on the JV tennis team here at Liberty. She plans on trying out for soccer this spring. When asked what her biggest worry about high school was, she responds with, “I was so nervous. I was positive that I was going to get lost or fall down the stairs.” She then says how her first day went way better than planned, “I didn’t fall or get lost at all. Classes are pretty easy to find when you get the hang of it.” A former student of Frontier Middle School, Emma loves the freedom and thinks the hardest adjustment is the distance.

Summer White

Summer is a unique girl who is not afraid to show her own style. With teal streaks in her hair and a bright smile on her face, she talks about how she likes high school because there is plenty of freedom and diversity. Ms. White loves the fact that she can take classes that apply to her interests. “I really like Biomedical because it is fun, educational and challenges me. I get to learn things I enjoy and it helps me see if this would be something that I would want to do when I get older,” White said. When asked how the homework is compared to in middle school she explains, “The homework load is a bit less. I think that in middle school, teachers wanted us to be very prepared for everything high school would bring.”

Nothing much has changed.” He likes the new freedom that comes with high school. Tate loves his German class because he thinks Mr. Stoll is hilarious. “I’m really used to being with the same people and it is really different not having every class with the same people.
