The girls tennis team has been fighting to make their history and they did just that.

Liberty took second place as a team at districts on Sept. 28 and had some outstanding recent individual performances.

Freshman Nawal Cheema took first at both districts and sectionals in singles and has qualified for the state tournament on Oct. 14th.

Cheema, who had an 8-1 record, becomes the first Liberty tennis athlete to make the state tournament.

Cheema had a hard fight against an opponent from Hickman High School (Columbia) at sectionals, but never backed down from the fight. The passion was in her eyes, she wanted to go to state.

“I felt good,” Cheema said. “I’ve been playing for 3 years and I worked hard.”

Cheema wasn’t the only one that placed in districts.

Avery and Emma Ingle, both sisters, ended up placing third in doubles at districts against Timberland High School in one of the hardest matches they have played all season.

“We were super excited, it felt awesome to beat such tough players,” junior Emma Ingle said. “It didn’t seem real until Avery came and hugged me.”

Both the Ingles placed third at districts against Timberland and became the farthest a Liberty doubles team has advanced.

The tennis team worked very hard during the season to be able to accomplish the goals they have set for themselves and has shown that hard work and dedication pays off in the end.
