Luke Carter is just one member in the Liberty High School Eagle Regiment, also known as the Liberty Marching Band. Carter, a sophomore, plays baritone during marching season and trombone when he’s not marching.

Carter is the Low Brass section leader. “I had to write an essay about how I could improve the band,” Carter said when asked about the process. Additionally, the band directors picked from the applicants who would become the section leader for each of the sections.

Carter found inspiration in sixth grade when he found out that he could sign up for jazz band and took his chance.

The trombone and baritone aren’t the only instruments that Carter plays. Outside of school, Carter loves to play the guitar. He loves rock and disco music. Some of his favorite bands are Guns n’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mama’s Pride.

When asked if Carter thinks band is a sport, Carter said, “Yes, but it is an easy sport. I think it is because we compete in competitions.”

Marching has made drastic improvements from the first year of the school’s existence. The marching band went to Washington and got 8th place in the competition, finally beating their highest record and hitting the 70’s in points. They finished 2nd in their division at Merrimack, and just recently took home 4th place in their competition at St. Genevieve.
