Boys Basketball:

The Liberty boys basketball team will play at rival Timberland in the first round of districts Wednesday at 6 p.m. Timberland (6-13 record) is coming in as the No. 2 seed in the bracket therefore a slight favorite over the Eagles (7-11) who are the No. 3 seed. However, the Eagles don’t really see it that way.

“They are going to come ready to play and I know if we come out and play how we can play, we will come out on top in the end,” junior Adrian Lee said.

The Eagles had almost the whole team quarantined not too long ago, but now they are uncaged and ready to play.

“We are excited to finally get back post quarantine and finish the season strong,” senior Gabe McCrary said when asked about the bounce back. “We accept the outcome and play how we know how. We don’t have a lot of games left and we are playing with a sense of urgency.”

If the Eagles win against the Wolves, they will play the winner of Holt (5-19) and Troy (17-6) on Friday. With Troy as the favorite to win the district, the Eagles are hoping to get a shot at the Trojans with a title on the line.

Girls Basketball:

For Liberty’s girls basketball team, they are also playing in a tournament bracket with the same things, but in a different order. The Eagles (8-15) come in as the No. 4 seed and will play at top-seeded Holt (20-2) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. You can watch the game for a fee here.

If the Eagles win that game, they will play the winner of second-seeded Troy and third-seeded Timberland.

“We know it is going to be a tough game. We are still being positive and having fun, but at the same time we’re trying to figure out how to defend teams like Holt. We are still confident and ready to try to have the game of our lives,” senior Alyssa Frey said.

The Eagles are coming off of two straight wins and two more would make them district champions. They defeated Washington and Miller Academy in their last two games.

The Eagles did not play any of the district teams in the regular season.
