Cami Grimes is a junior and plays for Liberty’s junior varsity soccer team.

In their game up against Francis Howell, the girls were on a break-away play, and the opposition managed to stop it. In the scramble for the ball, Grimes managed to get a kickoff. After she kicked it, the crowd for both teams went silent in the stands. No talking, no movements,  just stares.

When asked what she was expecting the moment after she kicked it from the 43 yard line, she said, “I was just gonna kick the ball and hope it goes in.”

The ball went flying and hit the ground on the 18 (the box) and took a high bounce to where the goalie could almost touch it. “I thought it was going to hit the crossbar so someone else could hit it in.”

After what seemed like a long pause, the ball went over the goalie and into the net. The crowd started to go wild in disbelief.

“I was really happy, I rarely make goals because I play on defense,” Grimes said.

They won that game and in the end, her teammates were very proud of her for making the goal.
