Just four years ago, junior Danielle Gregory became hooked with throwing and now she is a top ranked thrower in the whole country.

Over the summer, at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Championship, she won in the hammer throw event with a throw of 167 feet and 9 inches and also set the record for the 15-16 age group.

Not only did she win in her age group, but if she would have been competing in the 17-18 age group, she would have won too.

“I was overwhelmed when I heard the results from the competition. I had so many emotions that I don’t even know how to put it into words,” Gregory said.

Not many people are able to get to where she is today. It wasn’t easy and it definitely has taken a lot of time and hard work.

She started training for this specific competition about one year ago.

She throws at least 3-4 times every week and she lifts as much as she possibly can.

If it wasn’t for her brother, she would have never began throwing in the first place.

He thought that she would like it and Coach Gary Cooper threw her in the ring. She has been hooked on it ever since that first time.

Gregory has many goals for her future and by the end of her senior year, she wants to be able to throw over 200 feet.

She also knows that she wants to continue to throw after she graduates high school and hopes that she can get a scholarship for throwing to go to her dream school, Auburn University.

When Danielle Gregory first started throwing, she had no idea that it would impact her life as much as it has, and that it would be something she wanted to continue for a long time after high school.
