Michelle Mason’s two books: “My Second Impression of You,” and “Your Life Has Been Delayed.”

Abbiegail Luker, Reporter

Michelle Mason is a local author who has written two books, “My Second Impression of You” and “Your Life Has Been Delayed.” Mason is coming to visit our library on April 13 during NEST Time. Here are some topics of her presentation according to her website:

  • Her journey to publication (including her path to young adult, 500+ rejections and the importance of perseverance)
  • Her debut book along with the inspiration behind it, how she researched a book set in the present that includes a historical worldview, and other behind the scenes fun
  • Drafting, revising and polishing a book (including how revision is where the magic happens!)
  • Writing process and how it’s different for every writer
  • What it’s like working with other writers, an agent, and an editor to turn a draft into a published book
  • The story of a book (take students through the path of a single book from idea to drafting, sending to other writers for critique, revising with an agent then editor, cover design, copy editing, and more)
  • What makes a story (plot, character, conflict, etc.)

“My Second Impression of You” is a romcom about 16-year-old Maggie Scott, a drama club enthusiast. Everything is going great until her boyfriend, Theo, unexpectedly breaks up with her. Worse yet, she breaks her foot, leaving her unable to star in their school play, and is saved by the “most obnoxious boy in school,” Carson. One day, she gets a strange text from an unknown number, asking if she’d like a redo back to when she met Theo (to which she agrees). Follow Maggie on her discovery of what (or whom) she thought she knew.

“Your Life Has Been Delayed” takes place in 1995, with high school senior Jenny Waters taking a plane to St. Louis after a visit to her grandparents in New York City. Only problem: when they landed, it was 2020. Jenny has been missing for the past 25 years, and the world is hardly recognizable with all of its technological advancements and whatnot. Travel with Jenny through time, and witness how she handles the 21st century.

If you’d like to get a chance to see Mason, you can sign up here. The first 23 students who sign up get a 1990’s themed prize (based on the setting of Mason’s most recent book, “Your Life Has Been Delayed”).
