As the end of the school year approaches, seniors are preparing to take their next big steps. More than 170 students will participate in this year’s Decision Day on Friday, May 2. Decision Day is an annual event held during Soar time in the small gym. The celebration gives seniors the opportunity to announce their post graduation plans.
“Decision Day is an event where seniors celebrate their plans after high school by wearing college shirts or items that represent their future,” Annabelle Hargrove (12) said. “I’m most looking forward to taking pictures with my friends.” Hargrove plans to attend Maryville University to pursue a five-year master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.
Throughout the event, students will be dressed in gear that reflects their chosen paths. Weather they’re heading to college, entering the workforce, joining the military, or even taking a gap year. Colorful accessories like foam fingers, banners, custom hats, and handmade signs help make the day feel festive and personal.
Among the students taking part is Carson Scrogin (12), who has committed to the University of Missouri (Mizzou).
“Next year I am attending Mizzou with an NROTC scholarship and studying mechanical engineering,” Scrogin said. “It’s very important to me to serve my country, and I believe this is the best path for me to become an officer after graduation.”
Decision Day is more than just a celebration, it’s an achievement. For many seniors, it’s the first public moment where they share their ambitions and feel recognized for their efforts throughout high school. Counselors and administrators are expected to attend in support, offering congratulations and words of encouragement.
Decision Day is not only a reflection of the hard work seniors have put in over the past four years, it’s also a look forward at the exciting futures they’re building.
