Mrs. Jennings’ French 3 class has been studying art, specifically impressionism. In class, they find famous French impressionism paintings online and deeply describe it by using French vocabulary. Many of the students really enjoy this unit because of how fun it is.
“The kids did a great job of looking at the impressionist paintings that we had studied and they were able to see some of the characteristics of impressionism we had talked about,” Mrs. Jennings said. “I feel like it was kind of motivation for the kids to learn more about the painters and the style of painting impressionism.”
Mrs. Jennings was determined to get her students to see some real French art. So, she had the idea to take her students to the St. Louis Art Museum. The class was more than excited to go and see they’ve been studying over the past couple months. Mrs. Jennings assigned a small scavenger hunt and the students had to take pictures, recreate paintings, and what year the paintings were made. Some of these paintings were Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, and many different artists that the students have studied in class.
After this quick scavenger hunt, the students were able to see what they wanted to and explore the museum. They were able to see cool artifacts, paintings, items from a long time ago or a new modern piece. An example of this would be the famous French painter Claude Monet with his beautiful art work named “Nymphéas” which means lily pad in English.
Since Mrs. Jennings’ French 3 class finished up their impressionism unit, they now go on to heritage. The class looks forward to having more field trips in the future.
