The expected Monday night snowstorm had a change in timing as it decided to start around 10:30 a.m. and brought heavy snow with it.
The Wentzville School District announced on social media at 11:14 a.m. that Monday Dec. 1 will be an early release day, where students across the district will be getting out approximately two hours and 15 minutes earlier than usual. However, the students were given this information at 11:29 a.m. by an announcement from Principal Dr. Nelson.
All after-school practices and contests are cancelled today due to inclement weather.
The National Weather Service declared a Winter Weather Advisory from Dec. 1 at 1 a.m. until Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. for the area between Kansas and Vermont.
This news comes as an excitement for students and teachers, with it also being a late start as well as the first day back from Thanksgiving break.
“Our teacher told us about it, and I am very excited,” Rylie Deters (10) said.
With this being an early release during lunch time, students will be able to spend the day with their friends.
“I’m gonna go make snow angels when I get home and then sleep,” Brianna Holliday (10) said.
With this being the first snow day of the year, and an expected 2-4 inches to fall throughout today, students and teachers are all wondering, if tomorrow will be called off as well.
UPDATE:
At 1:48 p.m. the district announced that buses are currently not running for elementary schools throughout the district, being paused due to dangerous road conditions. Buses that were on the roads have also been told to go to the nearest schools, and not continue with their routes until further notice. There is no sure time on when the all clear will be sent out for buses to continue with their routes.
Francis Howell and Fort Zumwalt are also in similar situations, with their buses not currently running.
UPDATE 2:58 p.m.:
From WSD:
Elementary Families,
WSD elementary transportation is scheduled to resume around 3 p.m. Thank you for your patience and flexibility. Please plan for potential delays as our drivers take time to transport students safely.
UPDATE 5:31 P.M.
From the Executive Assistant of Academic Services & Non-Public Gifted Contact, Debbie Sethaler:
Today’s early release will NOT count as one of the given snow day’s that students are given per the snow day policy.
“If kids had lunch at school, it still counts as a school day,” Sethaler said.
Therefore WSD still has the two non-makeup snow days left, to use for future snow days.
