Banners line the perimeter of the gym, dotting it with purples and blues and reds like collegiate confetti.
Piling through the double doors, seniors donned with shirts in colors equally varied fill the gym with a radiating enthusiasm, a buzzing, echoic symphony of what is to come.
Decision Day is hosted by the school every year in celebration of the seniors, whatever their next steps may be. This year’s Decision Day took place on May 1 in the small gym.
Pictures are taken by perfectly-framed set-ups, lunch is provided, and music is played. For the seniors, this is their chance to show off their future, and to congratulate, perhaps for the last time, more personally the fellow members of the class, with whom they have shared the past 13 years.
“I really enjoyed the Decision Day,” Rathi Thiagarajan (12) said. “It was an opportunity to meet with all the people we have such close connections with, and watch where we go out into the world.”
The Class of 2026 is diverse in their projections into the world. Some are heading into the workforce, others into military. Students are attending universities coast to coast.
“I am attending Ole Miss, and plan to major in education and English to become and English teacher,” Keron Bowman (12) said. “If possible, I want to double major in psychology, and work towards becoming a counselor.”
There proposes no limitations for this next generation of young adults for which we cannot innovate. Decision Day is but one choice set before the Class of 2026, and they are fully capable of the challenge.
