While the annual student vs. seniors Swofford game canceled this year due to COVID-19, the event will still go on; It will just be a bit modified this time.

French teacher, Madame Farrelly and our staff are working on a SOS (Save our Scholarship) event for our seniors. Instead of doing the annual basketball game, there will be the virtual 5K run or walk.

“Unfortunately, there is no actual game this year, but the Swofford game committee is still hoping to see some fun teachers vs. seniors competition and keep our tradition alive,” Madame Farrelly said. “In normal years, we have a staff vs. seniors basketball game and it’s so much fun. All of the money raised from the game goes to the Swofford Memorial Scholarship Fund, and two of our very own seniors can apply and earn this scholarship. We wanted to be able to award those scholarships this year, so we decided to create our first virtual 5K,” she explained.

The Swofford Memorial Scholarship is named after former Holt and Timberland teacher and coach Scott Swofford, who passed away in 2000. Scholarships will be awarded to students at all three Wentzville high schools. Two deserving Liberty students will be each awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

Students and staff had until Apr. 18 to register for the event. They have to complete their run or walk by May 2nd. The virtual races do not have to be on school grounds. You will be able to complete your races anywhere. Once you registered, you wait to receive your t-shirt. Participants will record and upload their race times, and the team “score” will be the average of all participants on the staff team.
