Spanish, French and Spanish students take home multiple awards at UMSL during World Languages Day
October 18, 2022
After preparing for several weeks, many level three and AP students of Spanish, French, and German took a field trip to UMSL for World Languages Day on Oct. 7.
Students from Liberty collaborated with many other students from across the St. Louis area, including Fort Zumwalt, Francis Howell, and other Wentzville high schools. During this event, multiple students competed in different events, from poster design, to poetry recital, to short film production, all of which in their target language.
“It was really exciting and amazing,” senior Payton Busselman beamed after winning first place for German Poetry Recital. “It felt really amazing and I knew my parents were going to be very proud of me.”
Junior Aicha Beye won first place in the French Poetry Recital, which left her very excited.
“It was a really proud moment for me,” Beye beamed. “I feel very dedicated to French and I liked having the approval of someone who spoke it way better than me.”
Outside of the poetry recitals, Beye and Busselman spent time with friends while exploring UMSL.
“It was really amazing to see all of the other world language clubs come together and just be there to celebrate learning languages and the love of them,” Busselman adds.
