Have you ever heard of a girl getting confused for her dad? Freshman Toni Patterson shares her name with her dad.

Her mom wanted to name her after her dad, Tony, because her mom wanted them to have something personal that they could always share.

Patterson and her dad have a very close relationship.

“We are best friends,” she said.

Patterson and her dad do everything together.

“Her dad was in love with her before she was even born so I wanted to honor his love in a significant way,” said Ramonda Patterson.

Patterson doesn’t want to continue the tradition of her name, but she would consider naming her child something that starts with a T.

Patterson has mixed emotions about her name because people have judged her for it before, but she holds that connection with her dad very close now.

“My name makes me who I am,” she said.

If she had the option to change her name to anything else, she wouldn’t.

“I honestly couldn’t picture Toni having any other name,” Patterson’s best friend, Sara Gordley, said.

Toni and her dad have had to defend themselves over their names more than once, but it is their shared name that gives them an unbreakable connection that nobody else has.
